Questioning IGA’s efficacy – Master Thesis, chapter 3 overview

January 8, 2009

More information on chapter 1 and chapter 2.

From the last chapter – or simply from its summary, you can have the feeling IGA is the next big thing. Well, hold that thought a second. Have you ever wondered what it took to make a successful IGA campaign? Which types of games are well suited to IGA and which are not? On top of that, did you ever ask a gamer what if thought about having his favorite covered with ads?

Rather than trying to sum up the whole chapter, you will have to make do with a few advice :)
Advertising in games is very tricky and, in a nutshell, I see two – no wait! three – viable options.

From traditional media to new media – Master Thesis, chapter 1 overview

January 7, 2009

Before getting into great details about what makes IGA relevant to advertisers or the game genres suited to IGA, I thought I would give some sort of overview.

Here we go for a sneak peak at Chapter 1 :)

Hello world!

January 3, 2009

A quick post to present what you will find in the near future on this blog. In a nutshell, lots of videos games, a little marketing, and hopefully, a touch of common sense :)

Why this blog?

It all started when I was working on my Master Thesis. The subject I ended up choosing was Reconnecting with the 18-34 males demographic, A study of in-game advertising. If you feel like reading the whole thing, you can download it (PDF) from the left rail, thanks to the box.net widget.

I definitely put some efforts into that what started as a mere requirement before I could graduate. It felt somewhat frustrating to think that only a handful of people would ever read my paper. And then a simple thought crossed my mind: why not share it with the community? So that is what I’m about to do, but not only. I will also write about topics totally uncorrelated to IGA, including the rise of achievements or casual gaming… but you’ll see for yourself in the weeks to come :)

‘HopeĀ  you’ll like what you’ll find here and – by all means – please share some feedback and feel free to start a conversation in the comments section.

Disclaimer: English is not my native language; I’ll do my best to make sure reading me is pleasant, but I can’t promise error-free writing :)
